Time to change your approach

I’m going to tell you something most people never do but should if they want to close more sales.

Yesterday, Karen and I had a mixed doubles match. We had lost  our first two matches and were determined to win this one but things were not going well.

We we down 5-0 in the first set. Karen was playing with a new and “better” racquet than the one she had been using for years and couldn’t get anything into the court. So at the changeover, she ran to the car and got her old racquet.

We still lost the set 6-2 but sensed that things would get better and they did until they got much worse.

We easily won the second set 6-2 and were pretty much cruising when I lunged for a passing shot at the beginning of the final set and pulled a muscle in my calf.

I didn’t want to quit but I told Karen I’d  have difficulty running. As a result, things were looking bleak. We were down 5-2 and on our way to our third defeat in a row.

Then it happened…

We talked and decided tp change our approach which was completely different than how we played during our second set victory. We also got more determined to comeback and win. And win we did, 7-5.

When doing a sales presentation, you need to be acutely aware of how your audience is responding to it. Most sales people are so inside their own heads they are oblivious to their audiences reactions and as a result don’t close.

You need to be truly present with your audience and change your approach to what you’re saying and how you’re selling until you get the responses you desire.

In order to be present you need to have a planned and rehearsed presentation so you don’t have to think about what you need to say or do.

These week, I’ll reveal some secrets for planning and rehearsing BUT tomorrow, your good ole Uncle Dave is going to answer your most pressing questions about sales. You can ask me any questions you have about group selling whether in person or via media like webinars, teleseminars, etc.
