Backstage with Bon Jovi

Last night the wife and I went to see Bon Jovi for what feels like the 100th time. I’m not a huge fan but she is and so off we went.

I didn’t get tickets right away so we were relegated to the back of the stage. Yeah, I know, not as as cool as if we were actually “backstage.”

Anyway, good ole Jon, put on basically the same show as he’s done for years and years. It’s entertaining because he’s a real pro.

He had the audience in the palm of his hand throughout. When he told them to stand, they stood. When he told them to clap, they clapped. When he wanted them to belt out a verse from a song, he held the mic stand out in front of himself, pointing towards the audience, and they belted out the tune.

At one point he actually pointed to an audience member who was sitting, after he told everyone to stand and insisted that this person stand as well.

I talk a lot about compliance when you are speaking to sell. You need to ask your audience to participate and then demand that they do.

Like Bon Jovi, you need to do what you tell them to do throughout your presentation and make sure they do it. Then, when you tell them to buy, they will buy.

So the next time you speak to sell, put your rockstar attitude on.
